Route Driver
Position Details
Collects refuse and recyclables by driving collection vehicles on a designated route; hauling, lifting, and loading items; operating compactors and loaders; maintaining safe and healthy operations, and equipment.
Key Responsibilities

- Organizes daily service by reviewing collection route and special instructions; inspecting and testing vehicles and equipment; completing vehicle preparation, such as: checking oil, fuel, water, tire pressure, etc.; obtaining required repairs.
- Collects refuse and recyclables by driving collection vehicles on designated routes; retrieving, hauling, lifting, and loading items; operating compactors and loading equipment; rejecting unacceptable items; instructing customers on proper containers and items for collection, placement of containers, and packaging procedures.
- Disposes of refuse and recyclables by driving to transfer station; dumping load; driving recyclables to collection station.
- Keeps equipment operating by following operating instructions; troubleshooting breakdowns; performing operator preventive maintenance; submitting work orders for repairs.
- Maintains safe and healthy work environment by following state and local driving rules, organization standards, and legal regulations; cleaning-up spills.
- Documents loads by maintaining logs.
- Updates job knowledge by participating in educational opportunities.
- Accomplishes organization goals by accepting ownership for accomplishing new and different requests; exploring opportunities to add value to job accomplishments.
Qualifications
- Ability to get in and out of the truck repeatedly throughout the workday
- Valid Class B CDL
- Two years of experience in a CMV (Commercial Motor Vehicle) with a GVWR of over 26,001 pounds
- Experience with hydraulic systems
- Experience with a manual transmission
- Must be 25 years of age or older (per DOT/insurance requirements)
- Must be able to read and write English (per DOT requirements)
- Successfully pass pre-employment background investigation, drug screen, motor vehicle records check, DOT physical and human performance examination
- High school diploma or GED preferred
